How we picked
We looked at four things: what the tool takes in, what it does to a recording with several takes, where it runs, and how you pay.
Checked against each vendor's public pages on 16 October 2026. Plans change. We make ClipsPal, and nothing here is rated or ranked.
Why people look beyond Vizard for raw recordings
Vizard transcribes your upload, and "Get AI clips" returns clips for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram and other channels. Its editor lets you edit by text, fine-tune on a timeline, change the ratio in one click, translate captions into over 100 languages, apply brand templates and share a link.
Its pricing page says 1 credit is 1 minute of video, and every minute you upload costs a credit. Free is 60 credits a month with 720p export and uploads up to 60 minutes and 1GB. Creator and Business list no watermark and 4K export.
That credit rule is why the source matters. A 30-minute raw recording with retakes uses 30 credits before a single clip exists. If you cut the failed takes first, you upload only the material you would keep.
Stay with Vizard if you already have finished long videos, want team workspaces, or schedule posts from the same tool.
1. ClipsPal
Best for: recurring raw talking-head recordings, edited and then clipped. We make it.
ClipsPal is a Mac app for macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon. Intel Macs are not supported. This is how a raw recording becomes shorts:
- Drop in the raw recording with all its takes.
- ClipsPal transcribes it on your Mac. Only the transcript goes to the AI account you already have (Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode) or to a free local model. Footage never leaves the Mac.
- One click cuts failed takes, silences and filler, and adds zoom-ins, subtitles, visuals and sound effects.
- The result opens in a multi-track timeline. Edit by hand, or type a request to Director.
- Turn the finished video into vertical shorts, and into an article.
Check before you export:
- Scrub each cut and confirm no good take was removed.
- Read the subtitles against what you said.
- Open each short and check the first line works. The free hook generator helps with that.
It takes video files, not links. There is no browser editor, shorts export to your Mac so you upload them yourself, and it does not post for you.
It is a one-time lifetime purchase with a free download. See pricing and the Mac download. The AI clip maker, YouTube Shorts maker and video editor for Mac pages cover the workflow in more detail.
2. OpusClip
Best for: pasting a long video link or uploading a file and getting clips back.
OpusClip is a web app. On Pro it takes links from YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, Zoom and more. It adds captions, reframing and B-roll, and publishes to social platforms. Free is 60 credits a month with a watermark. Starter is $15 a month and Pro is $29 a month, or $174 billed annually. Our AI video clippers comparison covers it in more detail.
3. 2short.ai
Best for: turning a YouTube video into shorts with the speaker kept centered.
2short.ai starts from a pasted YouTube link, and the video needs captions. Face tracking keeps the active speaker centered and subtitles are animated. You can export vertical, square or horizontal. Free is 30 minutes of AI analysis a month. Paid plans run from $9.90 to $49.90 a month.
4. Gling
Best for: cutting a raw recording, then finishing in another editor.
Gling says it is designed exclusively for desktop and emails you the download link. It removes bad takes, silences and filler words, and adds AI captions and automatic zoom. It exports to Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Premiere, or to MP4 or MP3 with SRT captions.
How to choose
- A finished long video you upload: Vizard or OpusClip.
- A YouTube link: 2short.ai or OpusClip.
- A raw multi-take recording on a Mac, kept local: ClipsPal.
- Cut the recording first, then finish in Premiere, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro: Gling.
Questions
Is there a free Vizard alternative?+
OpusClip has a free plan with 60 credits a month and a watermark. 2short.ai gives 30 minutes of AI analysis a month. ClipsPal has a free download, and editing needs the one-time license.
Can I clip a YouTube link without Vizard?+
Yes. OpusClip and 2short.ai both say they take a pasted YouTube link. ClipsPal does not. It works from video files on your Mac.
Does ClipsPal upload my video?+
No. It transcribes on your Mac and sends only the transcript to your own AI account or a free local model.
Does ClipsPal post my shorts?+
No. Shorts export to your Mac and you upload them yourself.
Do I need to edit before repurposing?+
Not always, but with Vizard every uploaded minute costs a credit, so retakes and silences use credits before any clip exists. ClipsPal cuts failed takes, silences and filler first, then turns the finished video into shorts.
