Free teleprompter online

Paste your script and read it as it scrolls past your camera.

Paste your own script over this one, then press Start. Look at the lens, not the words. Put this window as close to your camera as you can, so your eyes stay near it. Speak a little slower than feels natural. If you lose your place, press Space, breathe and carry on. Messed up a line? Say it again and keep recording. You can cut the bad take later.

How the online teleprompter works

  1. 01

    Paste your script

Type or paste the text. It is saved in this browser, so it is still there next time.

  2. 02

    Set the pace

Speed is in words per minute. Read time shows how long the script runs at that pace.

  3. 03

    Put it by the lens

Go fullscreen and place the window right under or beside your camera. Turn on Mirror when you read off the glass of a teleprompter rig.

  4. 04

    Run it from the keyboard

Space starts and pauses. The arrow keys change the speed and move back or forward. R restarts.

Teleprompter questions

How do I use a teleprompter online for free?+

Paste your script into the tool, set the speed and text size, then press Start or the Space key. There is no account and no install, and the script stays in your browser.

What speed should a teleprompter scroll at?+

Start at 150 words per minute and read one paragraph aloud. If you are chasing the text, lower the speed. If you are waiting for it, raise it. You can change it with the up and down arrow keys while it scrolls.

What does mirror mode do?+

It flips the text horizontally. A teleprompter rig reflects a screen in a sheet of glass in front of the lens, so the text has to be mirrored to read the right way round. Leave it off when you read straight from the screen.

Does the teleprompter work on a phone or tablet?+

Yes. It is a web page, so it runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. Use the Start, Restart and Fullscreen buttons instead of the keyboard.

How do I edit the video after recording with a teleprompter?+

ClipsPal for Mac edits the recording from its transcript: one click cuts failed takes, silences and filler and adds subtitles and zoom-ins. See the AI video editor page, write the next script with the script generator, or browse the other free tools.
