Opus Clip alternatives for repurposing video

The Opus Clip alternative for creators who record on a Mac is ClipsPal: it edits the raw takes first, then turns the finished video into shorts and articles. ClipsPal is our product. Four other tools follow, with prices taken from their own pages in October 2026.

ClipsPal: edit the raw recording, then cut the shorts

Clipping tools start from a finished long video. A recording with failed takes, pauses and filler is not one yet.

ClipsPal starts earlier:

  1. Drop the recorded clips into ClipsPal on your Mac. It transcribes them on the Mac.
  2. One click cuts failed takes, silences and filler and adds zoom-ins, subtitles, visuals and sound effects.
  3. The result opens in a multi-track timeline. Change it by hand or type a request to Director.
  4. Turn the finished video into shorts and an article.

Your footage never leaves the Mac. Only the transcript goes to the AI account you already have (Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode) or to a free local model, and with the local model nothing leaves the Mac. Nothing is billed per video, and it understands 40 spoken languages.

It is a one-time lifetime purchase with a free download. The ClipsPal homepage shows two shorts cut from one 8:52 video next to the article made from it. The AI video editor page covers the editing side in more detail.

ClipsPal is not for everyone: Windows, Intel Macs and browser-only workflows are not supported.

Other Opus Clip alternatives

Descript

Descript edits video by editing a doc, with Underlord as its AI co-editor. Per its pricing page, it lists Remove Retakes, Remove Filler Words, Shorten Word Gaps and a Create clips tool that picks moments and makes clips. Plans meter media hours and AI credits: Free 60 minutes, Hobbyist 10 hours, Creator 30 hours a month. It suits creators who want editing and clipping in one subscription.

Vizard

Vizard does AI clipping, auto reframe, auto subtitling, scheduling and direct publishing to social accounts. On its pricing page, 1 credit equals 1 minute of uploaded video. The Free plan has 60 credits a month, 720p export and 3-day storage; paid plans remove the watermark and export 4K. It suits creators who want a free monthly allowance and scheduled posts.

Riverside

Riverside records separate audio and video tracks, up to 4K on Pro, and offers Magic Clips. According to its pricing page, Pro adds text-based editing, AI removal of silences and filler words, and publishing to YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Instagram and LinkedIn. Live streaming comes with Grow ($39 a month, or $34 billed annually). It suits podcasters and interview shows that record there.

Klap

On its homepage, Klap takes a pasted YouTube link or an uploaded file. The AI picks topics, reframes, adds captions and scores clips for viral potential, and you can publish and schedule to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn. It works best on videos with speech and supports 52 languages. It suits creators who want the shortest path from a published video to clips.

When to stay with Opus Clip

Stay if any of these describe you, all from its homepage:

  • Your long video is already edited or published and you want to paste a link. The Pro plan lists YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, Zoom, Twitch, Loom, Riverside and more.
  • You clip footage that is not talking-head. Its ClipAnything model is described as working on vlogs, gaming, sports and interviews.
  • You want one-click publishing to social platforms, brand templates, a team workspace or an API.
  • You work on Windows or in a browser.

Questions

Is there a free Opus Clip alternative?+

Klap lets you make 1 video free. Vizard has a free plan with 60 credits a month and 720p exports, Descript has a $0 plan with 60 media minutes a month, and Riverside has a free plan with a watermark. ClipsPal is a free download, and editing starts once you enter a license.

What is the difference between Opus Clip and ClipsPal?+

Opus Clip takes a finished long video by link or upload and publishes the shorts. ClipsPal starts earlier, from raw takes on a Mac, makes the edited video, then turns it into shorts and articles.

Which Opus Clip alternative keeps my footage on my computer?+

ClipsPal. Video, audio and transcription stay on the Mac, and only the transcript goes to the AI you chose. With the local model, nothing leaves the Mac.

Does ClipsPal work on Windows or in a browser?+

No. It needs macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon. For a browser, look at Opus Clip, Vizard or Klap.

Can Opus Clip edit a raw recording before clipping?+

Its homepage lists AI clipping, captioning, reframe, B-roll, audio enhance and an AI editor, and does not mention cutting failed takes. If the recording has several takes, edit it first, in ClipsPal or in Descript, which lists Remove Retakes.
