Descript vs Gling for talking-head editing

Pick Descript if you want to edit video by editing text, with a full AI suite around it. Pick Gling if you want bad takes, silences and filler cut from a raw recording fast, then finish in another editor. We make ClipsPal, so it is included as a third option.

What Descript does well

Descript transcribes your recording, and you edit the video by editing the text. Deleting a word deletes that moment of footage, and the timeline is there when you want finer control.

It removes filler words and retakes in a click, and its Underlord AI editor can turn a raw recording into a tighter cut from a prompt. It also records, adds captions, makes clips and translates video.

Stay with Descript if you want recording and editing in one platform, work with a team, or want the wider AI suite.

What Gling does well

Gling takes a raw recording, transcribes it and removes bad takes, silences and filler words. You then review the result and refine it in the text or on the timeline.

It adds AI captions, automatic zoom in and out, and noise removal. It also generates YouTube titles and chapters, and supports multicam editing.

For export, Gling connects to Premiere, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve, or writes MP4 or MP3 with SRT captions. It is desktop only, and the free tier exports with a watermark.

Stay with Gling if you cut takes in Gling and finish the video in another editor.

Where ClipsPal fits

We make ClipsPal, so weigh this section accordingly. It is a Mac app for one person on one camera who records several takes and needs the good one.

Transcription runs on your Mac. Only the transcript goes to the AI account you already have (Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode) or to a free local model, and your footage never leaves the Mac.

One click cuts failed takes, silences and filler, and adds zoom-ins, subtitles, visuals and sound effects. The result opens in a multi-track timeline that you edit by hand or by typing a request to Director. Finished videos can be turned into shorts and articles.

ClipsPal needs macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon. It has no browser editor and does not generate video from a text prompt. The download is free and the license is a one-time lifetime purchase. Try the free script generator or the other free tools.
