Camtasia alternative for Mac: talking heads
ClipsPal is the Camtasia alternative for Mac if you film talking-head course lessons and want the cleanup done for you. It is not a screen recorder, so it does not replace Camtasia for software walkthroughs. We make ClipsPal, so it comes first here.

ClipsPal: the Camtasia alternative that cleans up lessons
A lesson usually takes several attempts. ClipsPal reads the raw recording and makes the cutting pass for you.
- Drop in the raw lesson. Multi-take recordings are fine, retakes and all.
- Transcription runs on your Mac. Only the transcript goes to the AI account you already have (Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode) or to a free local model. Your footage never leaves the Mac.
- One click makes the cut. Failed takes, silences and filler words are removed, and zoom-ins, subtitles, visuals and sound effects are added.
- Open the result in a multi-track timeline. Adjust it by hand, or type a request to Director, the built-in AI editor.
- Reuse the lesson. Finished videos can be turned into shorts and articles.
ClipsPal edits recorded talking-head video. It does not record your screen, so keep Camtasia or ScreenFlow for software walkthroughs. It needs macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon and has no browser editor. See the ClipsPal homepage for the editor in action.

Other Camtasia alternatives for Mac
ScreenFlow is a Mac-only editor that records screen, camera and microphone at the same time. It has a caption editor for subtitles, starts at $199 and has a free trial. It suits software tutorials like Camtasia does.
Final Cut Pro is Apple's pro editor for Mac and iPad. It has a Magnetic Timeline and creates captions automatically by analyzing spoken audio. It is sold as a one-time App Store purchase for Mac, or as part of Apple Creator Studio.
Descript edits video by editing its transcript, so deleting a word deletes that moment of footage. It cuts filler words and retakes in a click, keeps a timeline for finer control and has a free plan.
DaVinci Resolve combines editing, color, effects and audio in one app. A free version exists, and Studio costs $295. It is a heavy tool for lessons that only need cutting.
When to stay with Camtasia
Camtasia records screen, camera and audio as independent layers, and lets you smooth, resize or reposition the cursor after recording. Its Essentials plan also includes text-based editing, automatic filler word removal, captions, quizzes and SCORM export for an LMS.
Stay if your lessons are screen recordings or need SCORM. Switch when cutting talking-head takes by hand is the part you want to stop doing.
