DaVinci Resolve remove silence vs ClipsPal
ClipsPal cuts silences, failed takes and filler from a talking-head recording in one click on a Mac. DaVinci Resolve is a full editor that is free to download. This site makes ClipsPal, so read the comparison with that in mind.
How to remove silence in DaVinci Resolve
Blackmagic describes Resolve as one app split into pages. Editing happens on the Cut and Edit pages, audio on the Fairlight page, and export on the Deliver page.
The product pages we checked do not document a dedicated silence-removal command or its steps, so this article lists no menu path for it. The exact command for your version is in Blackmagic's support center, where the Resolve reference manual is published.
What the pages do confirm is the edition split. Resolve is a free download. Resolve Studio costs $295 and adds the DaVinci AI Neural Engine. Both run on Mac, Windows and Linux.
How to remove silence in ClipsPal
ClipsPal is built for talking-head recordings where you shot several takes of the same line. Silence is one of the things it removes, not the only one.
- Add your recorded takes to ClipsPal. It transcribes them on your Mac.
- Click once. ClipsPal cuts failed takes, silences and filler, and adds zoom-ins, subtitles, visuals and sound effects.
- The result opens in a multi-track timeline.
- Change any cut by hand, or type a request to Director.
Footage never leaves the Mac. Only the transcript goes to the AI account you already use (Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode) or to a free local model. You can start from the free download on the ClipsPal homepage.

Which one should you use
Stay in Resolve if the project already lives there or needs colour grading, effects or audio post. It is a full post-production suite, and silence is a small part of what it does.
Use ClipsPal for talking-head recordings with repeated takes. A silence cut alone leaves the failed takes in. ClipsPal removes them in the same pass, and it opens a timeline you can still edit. It is also a video editor for Mac built for this kind of footage.
If you only need to trim pauses from one file and want no install, the free silence remover runs in your browser. It cuts by loudness, so it cannot tell a failed take from a good one.
